News & Articles Why I train in martial arts I have always been small. I was always picked last for teams in school. I developed a disdain for sports at an early age because I felt that was always blamed for something going wrong during the game. However, the martial arts fascianted my from a young age. The first day that I walked into a dojo started me on a journey that I will hope to continue the rest of my life. I discovered something that fit me and it was a physical activity. Surprise. You get the obvious benefits from martial arts training, a more fit body and a knowledge of self defense. However, training not only changes your body, it also changes your mind. This is the main reason why I train. Master Lewis always told me that the purpose of studying martial arts is to develop character. It was this philosphy that has kept me training. The character development portion of martial arts training that I appreciate the most is internal disciple. If I can push my body to do one more kick, punch, push up, sit up, etc., than I can also have the strength to listen to others, the courage to try to understand others, and the ability to force myself to try to be better than I was the day before, in all aspects of my life. This is why I train. |
