The BULLETT MARCH 2008
The Official Newsletter of the Order of Combat

March has come in strong and roaring like a lion, folks!  Wind, Rain, Snow, and Ice with capital letters have hit around the country, making life uncomfortable and downright dangerous for our citizens.

Are you prepared for disaster, at least a small one?  You need to have close to a week’s worth of food and water set aside.  Matches, candles, emergency flashlights are needed.  In a severe emergency, it may take up to five days before the government can get to you and get help and shelter for everyone.

Ideally, I’d suggest you try to put away a month’s worth, if possible.  That’s a lot of water.  Allot about 1 gallon a day per person for drinking and cooking.  More, if you want to stay fresh and clean.  It’s a lot of food, too.  Finding a place to store it can be a problem.  The dollar stores have a lot of different storage containers of all shapes and sizes.  You can stack them and pack them securely, and conveniently.

You don’t have to spend a lot of money, and you can stock up gradually.  Buy a couple of extra cans or packages every time you can afford it.   Get products that will last a long time.  It will build up.  As time goes by, use up and replace the oldest products you’ve stored, rotate it.

We just recently had an evening and night without any power due to a storm.  Since we have been spending a little effort to get prepared for an emergency, we had a pleasant evening, listened to the transistor radio, read a little by lantern light, and went to bed.  We recently bought a coffee pot that is not electric, and perks the old fashioned way. It’s really good.  So, we were fairly comfortable, instead of stressed out.  A little preparedness goes a long way.  Be prepared!
